Hometown Bomb Radius
1. Use Google Maps to find your hometown (or home).
2. Adjust the zoom on your map so that your home is in the centre of the page and the image has a minimum of three miles radius on either side of your home.
3. Print off the map.
4. Using your home as the epicentre, draw four concentric circles, one at .5 miles, one at 1 mile, a third at 1.5 miles and the last at 2 miles.
5. Describe what the effect of the hypothetical bomb blast (heat, wind, radiation) had on you and your family. Tell what happened to, the school, home, parents’ workplace, business, buildings etc. What is in store for the survivors in the future?

New Unit Today: Thematic Unit - Technology and Science: Changing Worlds
In this unit we will read both pragmatic and aesthetic texts that deal with a similar theme. In the process we will discuss the theme and analyze texts, explore grammar and create new texts. "The 5 Ws of Cyberspace". Lets do some evaluation of the effectiveness of information on the Internet.
Here is your task: Search online for web sites (not a web page) that deals with the topics of Science and Technology; such as math, engineering, medicine, computers. The purpose of the search is to find information for a newspaper article concerning young people entering the Science and Technology work force. Evaluate the web site, using the information on the handout "The 5 W's (and 1 H) of Cyberspace", and determine the accuracy, credibilty and relvance of this site for your article. Remember the serious job of a journalist! Hand in a min. 200 word report on your findings.
