Grade 9 Physical Education and Health
General Learning Outcomes:
- Movement - The student will demonstrate competency in selected movement skills, and knowledge of movement development with respect to different types of learning experiences
- Fitness Management - The student will demonstrate the ability to develop and follow a personal fitness plan for the school year
- Safety - The student will demonstrate safe and responsible behaviors to manage risks and prevent injuries in physical activity participation and in daily life
- Personal and Social Management - The student will demonstrate the ability to develop self-understanding, to make health-enhancing decisions, to work cooperatively and fairly with others, and to build positive relationships with others
- Healthy Lifestyle Practices - The students will demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions for healthy living related to personal health practices, active living, nutrition, substance abuse and human sexuality
Required Physical Education Clothing: T-shirt, shorts/sweats, clean, dry shoes, No jewelry. Shorts need to be a reasonable length (avoid spandex, spanx, etc.) Shirts need to have sleeves that come over the shoulder, and have appropriate messages. If you do not bring your Physical Education Clothing, are injured or sick, you will do an in-class assignment. Please bring a note if you are injured or sick
Assessment/Evaluation:
- Participation in Physical Activities - 45%
- Fitness or Wellness - 20% - Students will participate in a strengthalon on the first PE class of every month starting in October. They will also complete several 12-minute runs and Beep tests throughouth the year.
- Physical Activity Modules - 20% - Students must learn about different kinds of sports. They can do this by handing in sports reports, completing a 'game assignment', or scorekeeping.
- Health Modules - 15% - Quizzes and assignments

Sports Reports: Answer the following questions in a 1-2 page report
- Give a brief (1/4 page) explanation of the sport or activity
- What are the 10 most important rules that are necessary to play this sport?
- Give a brief (1/4) page history of the sport
- What are 10 pieces of terminology that surround this sport? Give definitions of each
- List 10 safety rules related to dress, injury prevention, facilities and equipment surrounding this sport
