  • Image Manipulation Assignment (U3A1) Due May 14, 2010
    • Research the famous picture of Decker’s fall at the 1984 Olympics. The objective of the assignment is to give you an opportunity to research this early, famous case of photo manipulation.
    • What was the offending object? Do you as think that it was acceptable to retouch the picture? Did it change the meaning of the picture? Give your reasons why (or why not).
    • If you absolutely can’t find any information about Mary Decker and the 1984 Olympics, feel free to substitute another case where digital manipulation (or “image doctoring”, “hoaxes” or “photo retouching”) caused controversy. Other famous examples include the National Geographic cover photo of the Egyptian Pyramids and the famous OJ Simpson portrait on the cover of Time magazine.

May 3 Theme this week is "Flight" (WP10) You should be using the editting techniques discussed in class to make this picture better.

May 10 Theme this week is "Yellow". (WP11)

May 14 Theme this week is "Passage of Time". (WP12)

May 27 Theme this week is your own choice. Only requirement is you must have text on your picture indicating the theme you have chosen. (WP13)

May 31 Theme this week is "A New Creation". (WP14) Create a new composition from 2 photos. The point should be to create a photo of something that could not happen in nature.

Glossary Assignment

DUE DATE: End of the course

Every industry and field of study has its own terms and lingo. Photography is no different. There are many terms that are used that define particular aspects and techniques in this field. Many of these terms will be new to you or have a new meaning in this field of study. As we work our way through the material in Digital Pictures your task will be to create a glossary of the terms you come across in this course.

This assignment should be completed using Word and the template attached below and available in the Digital Pictures course folder and will be handed in electronically.
